Cotehele House – This National Trust property is near Callington, which is about a 40 minute drive from Kingsand. You could make a day of it by enjoying a tour around the house and exploring the gardens. Although dogs are not allowed in the buildings or formal gardens, it is a still pet-friendly attraction as your four legged pal is allowed on the estate, and on the quay.

The Tudor house is just how it was in years gone by when it was the ancestral home to the Edgcumbe family who lived there until the late 17th century. You can view the superb collections of tapestries, furniture, arms and armour.  Complete your visit with an amble around the tranquil gardens, terraces and orchards.

Cotehele Quay was thriving in the 19th century and port users included cargo boats, paddle steamers filled with day visitors, and small boats carrying produce for the local market. Finish off your day by relaxing in the tearoom or visit Coltehele Mill, a nearby working watermill which also belongs to the National Trust.

Antony House – Another tourist destination within easy reach of our 5 star holiday cottage in Cornwall is Anthony House, which was also the film location of the Tim Burton movie, Alice in Wonderland.

The house dates back to the 18th century and is one of the best examples of a Queen Anne country house in the West Country. The family who lived here was embroiled in the events of the English Civil War and you can find out more about their fascinating history on your visit. The house is situated six miles from Plymouth and is approximately a 45 minute drive from the cottage.

Today, Antony House is the home of the Carew Pole family, and here you can view portraits, including one of Charles I, fine period furniture and tapestries, and take a walk in the stunning gardens.

One point to note is that although the house is a National Trust building, the woodland gardens are not. So a visit to the gardens will only be free to members if the house is open, otherwise this will cost extra.

Lanhydrock House – This superb property, inhabited by the Agar-Robartes family, was ravished by fire in the late 19th century and refurbished in the Victorian style. Here, you can find out all about life above and below stairs, comparing the sumptuous family areas to the servants’ quarters.

Make a day of it by exploring the gardens and taking an amble through the estate grounds. And, if you enjoy cycling, you can also hire bikes from the grounds to explore the stunning outdoors on two wheels.

If you are taking your pet with you, dogs are allowed on their leads on the estate, but they are not permitted in the gardens. They are also allowed in the outdoor seated area of the Stable Cafe. In addition to this, Lanhydrock House also hosts a free, one day dog event in August, which includes a dog show and police dog displays. Just visit the website to find out more.

This attraction is near Bodmin Parkway which is roughly a 40 minute drive from the cottage.
