Holidaying with your Baby

Sensory activities to entertain your baby while on holiday in Cornwall

Babies crave sensory experiences as that is how they learn.  They love motion, rhythm and music, and novelty – objects that are new.  With that in mind, I’ve put together a few recommendations for entertaining your baby near Kingsand where Blue Monkey is located.

MOTION

The Plymouth miniature steam train is suitable for all ages.  It runs on the 1st three Sundays of September and a ride costs 75p.  There are baby changing facilities available, restaurants, snacks and it is push chair friendly.   A charming and traditional day out for families on holiday at Blue Monkey with their baby.

Top Tip: Follow the directions online as the sat nav code is wrong!!

RHYTHM AND MUSIC

On Sunday 2nd September there is a free open air concert at Millbrook (6 minutes drive from Blue Monkey) between 2 and 4 in the afternoon.  Your baby may enjoy the gentle sounds of Folk and Acoustic music – and hopefully, so will everybody else in your party!  There are craft stalls to look at and 50% of the donations will go to the Rame Peninsula Beach Care fund: a charity dedicated to keeping the local beaches clean.

Top Tip: Take your own seat

NOVELTY

From four months old, babies lovely novelty.  They love to stare at shiny, moving, bright coloured objects and this also explains why old toys tend to quickly become less interesting in favour of exciting shiny new ones.  Blue Monkey is very well equipped with toys for children of all ages, including lots toys for babies.  But if the weather is wet and you need an outing, you can take children from 0 to 10 to Drakes Den just outside Plymouth where babies under 6 months go free!
