A wonderful welcome: scones, clotted cream, jam and in the fridge milk and a bottle of wine. We felt at home immediately. The house was spotless and was stocked with everything one needs on holiday. Beds were comfortable bathrooms sparkled. We were well looked after by Zoe who answered any queries we had. A really lovely home to spend a holiday in.

A home from home. Lovely location, exceptionally clean house, very baby friendly. A real home from home with a large comfy sofa, wood-burner, dishwasher and big comfy bed. Everything was thought off so we could relax and enjoy our holiday. A welcome pack of wine, bread, butter and cream tea awaited us too – just perfect.

A fantastic venue for a family gathering

Blue Monkey provided all that we could have wished for – spacious, well equipped, with very thoughtful provision for the youngest member of our party ( 23months)
We had a great get- together with our family in honour of our 45th Anniversary, and would recommend it to anyone planning a celebratory break !
We also loved the proximity to the sea , and found the shops stocked local produce.
Our favourite beach was Whitsand Bay – well worth a trek down the cliff path to a beautifully quiet, sandy beach. We wished we could have stayed longer !

Very enjoyable stay

The house is very well equipped and a generous size. The village and surrounding scenery are stunning.

We’re a family with young children and it was an ideal holiday.

Amazing location, 3.5hrs drive from London, right on the beach. Fabulous gastro pubs in the village. Brilliant walks from the front door.

Stunning holiday home in unspoilt Cornish village

We’ve stayed at Blue Monkey a few times now at different times of the year.

It’s been a no-brainer to do so: with two small children going abroad turns into a hassle but we still want to feel that holiday vibe, and that we’re going away somewhere special.

Blue Monkey is that place – it actually manages to feel boutique-y AND like a relaxed family home. (And crucial for us, all the baby equipment we need is there, so there’s less packing of ‘everything but the kitchen sink’.)

And of course it’s situated in the most gorgeous, picturesque village you could hope to find. The people are friendly, the town beach is child-friendly, the nearby Devonport Arms serves great great food.

I reeeeeallly recommend Blue Monkey to anyone!

A stylish seaside home in a beautiful part of Cornwall

The twin villages of Kingsand/Cawsand are located in east Cornwall in what is often called the “forgotten” corner of the county. We found the village(s) perfect with the benefits of being hidden away but equally a 30 minute ferry trip to Plymouth. This makes for a great combination when you have small kids who need entertaining come rain or shine!

The Blue Monkey was a great base to explore the area, being only a few steps from the beach, and had everything you need in a home away from home. The accommodation is spacious and decorated in coastal pastels, with everything needed for a very comfortable stay, and a great history to reflect on (pub, Nelson, cannonballs…). The owner, Ed, provides everything you need for a smooth ‘check in’ with clear instructions and guidance and nice touches such as bread, milk and wine. This really makes a difference after a long drive, albeit through lovely scenery.

Top tips would include:

– lunch at “The View” overlooking Whitsand bay. Great fish and local wine (try the Camel Valley)
– a walk around Mount Edgcumbe with its great views towards Plymouth and various activities for kids including treasure hunts and of course ice cream from the Orangery
– get the ferry from Cawsand beach to the Barbican in Plymouth and visit the National aquarium in time for the shark feed (11 am); afterwards get the shuttle ferry to King Williams Dock and enjoy the architecture and lunch at the River cafe
– enjoy a pint of Cornish ale whilst watching the sun go down overlooking the sea at the Devonport Inn; the kids can play on the beach below as you sip slowly!
– go crabbing in the rock pools as the tide recedes and reward yourself with morning tea/coffee at the deli just a few houses up from the Blue Monkey
all in all this a great holiday home in a lovely spot. You can’t help but relax and look forward to returning.

Blue Monkey is a lovely house – spacious and practical but stylish as well. It suited our needs as a 3-generation extended family very well. Having use of the 2 kayaks was a real bonus and fun for adults and children alike. Kingsand and Cawsand are perfect villages for a relaxing holiday. Beaches were on the doorstep, and good walking, village shop, post office, pubs, cafes, were all to hand, without spoiling the non-commercialised character of the place. We did not find parking in the nearby Skinner’s car park a problem at all – it is so close. In fact we often used buses and ferries to get around and this was all part of the fun. We were lucky enough to visit at the time of the Rame Gig Regatta which was another focus of interest. We had a problem with the fridge and were very impressed with how efficiently and quickly this was dealt with.
